Uses of S-Video Cable

Separate Video cable is known as S-Video cable is an analog video signal that is used to carry video data as two separate signals namely luminance and color. This cable is different from the composite video which is used to carry picture information as a single lower quality signal. It is also different from the component video that carries picture information as three higher quality signals. The standard definition video is carried by the S-Video cable but, it does not carry the audio signal on the same cable.

The most common type of S-Video connector is 4-pin mini DIN connector. Some other S-Video connectors include 7-pin locking dub connectors which are used on professional S-VHS machines and the dual “Y” and “C” BNC connectors are used for S-Video patch bays. The fact is although the connectors are different; the Y/C signals for different types are compatible. The S-Video cable is not suitable for high definition video signals due to lack of bandwidth.

S-Video cable is widely used throughout the world. This type of cable is found in the household appliances like TVs, digital TV receivers, high-end video cassette recorders, game consoles, DVD players, DVRs and graphic cards. This cable has been replaced by the composite video and digital video standards such as HDMI and DVI. The conversion of this cable to the composite signal is easy so, many retailers of electronic products provide converter adapters for signal conversion.

The S-Video cables are also used if you wish to take the output of the computer to TV for business as well as home use.

Where can I purchase a cable to split a composite video out signal?

You know the red, white, and yellow cables? I need a cable that splits one video out (yellow) signal into two, so that I can plug one into the TV and one into another socket.

Any suggestions?
By the way, please don't just say "Try radio shack!" or something. To be terrific, be specific!

Lenny, I hate to say it, but radio shack sells what you're looking for......they call it a RCA Y-Adaptor

you can specify if you need it to have 3 female ends or if you need 1 female and two male ends.....etc......figure it out and type it into to google for a price online.......for example: type "RCA Y-Adaptor 1F 2 M" if you think you need 1 female end and two male ends........I'd use this if the two plugs you were going to were near eachother.......if they were farther apart, I would get an adaptor with 3 Female ends so I could then run longer cables.
