Alarm Remote for my Ford Taurus?

I have a `99 Taurus. I dont have the original alarm remote for it, im not sure whether or not the car ever had it. So, i bought an original OEM remote off the internet, it was specially made for the 1999 Taurus. It comes with instructions on how to program it for my car. its gonna be shipped to my house later this week. Even if my car never had an alarm remote, am i still gonna be able to use it? (it mightve had the original remote but i bought the car used so im not sure)
